Planning a Road Trip?

Do you hear that? It’s the promise of new experiences and priceless memories waiting to be discovered as you head-off on your next adventure. With springtime drawing near, we know that there will be a greater desire to experience and explore the unknown world in whichever way is possible.

But before you go, we encourage you to read through this list of preparations to ensure that your journey is as enjoyable and safe as possible. Afterall, the call for adventure cannot be silenced, and our team at Larsen’s Auto Repair want you to be prepared for when that call is answered.

1. Pack an Emergency Kit

It’s never fun to imagine that your roadtrip could be anything but perfect, but sometimes life throws us a curve-ball at the worst of times. Stay prepared for emergencies on the road by either purchasing or packing your own car emergency kit with the following items:

  • First Aid - You’d be surprised what a few bandages, gauze and tape can do in an emergency situation. It’s also not a bad idea to pack some aspirin and anti-nausea medicine in there, too. Just in case.

  • Flares - Keep some in your car just in case you need help signalling to oncoming traffic that there is an emergency.

  • Food and Water - Non-perishable food items and water bottles are excellent to keep within your car in case of an emergency situation.

  • Flashlight - Add some spare batteries to your kit as well to ensure that you will always have light available when you need it.

2. Keep a Spare

Keep a spare tire in your car on the off-chance that it goes flat during your trip. It’s best to remember that the general rule of thumb is that a spare tire can only be used for a distance of up to 70 miles at a speed of 50mph after it has been placed. The reason for this is due to the fact that spares generally have very little tread and is more susceptible to damage.

After placing the spare on your car, be sure to take it to a professional soon after to be replaced with a new tire.

3. Have a Professional Check-Up

Whenever you will be taking your car for a long ride, it’s always best practice to have a qualified technician take a look at your vehicle beforehand. Our team at Larsen’s Auto Repair make sure to properly inspect your vehicle before your trip to ensure that it is as safe and reliable as possible during your journey. Our inspection includes but is not limited to:

  • Tires

  • Brakes

  • Fluids

  • Belts

  • Hoses

  • Steering and Suspension

  • Leaks

  • Wipers

  • Filters

  • And More

If you’re looking for assistance in preparing your vehicle for your upcoming road trip, we encourage you to give our friendly technicians at Larsen’s Auto Repair a call today.
